We take a look at some of the biggest stories of the week. This
week: lightning-sparked wildfires rage in the mountains west of
Gilroy, threatening but miraculously not destroying any structures;
and tempers flare over whether fireworks should be banned.
1. Wildfires rage for 48 hours

Firefighters completely contained the Hummingbird Fire Monday afternoon and the Whitehurst Fire was completely contained later that night.

However, for two days residents scrambled to evacuate their houses and worried that there would be nothing left when they returned. Traffic, air quality and the logistics of moving dozens of horses made the fire scare even worse.
