A 17-year-old Gilroy teen was arrested in connection with more
than 300 incidents of vandalism resulting in more than $10,000 in
damage, according to police.

A 17-year-old Gilroy teen was arrested in connection with more than 300 incidents of vandalism resulting in more than $10,000 in damage, according to police.
About 9:30 p.m. Friday, police found the teen in possession of aerosol spray paint cans, which is a misdemeanor. He was arrested. He was arrested, and investigators with the department’s anti-crime team were given permission by the boy’s parents to search his bedroom, where they found additional evidence.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was responsible for an estimated $10,000 of graffiti damage and 300 separate acts of graffiti, 20 of which are felonies. Multiple community members and local government agencies were victimized by the suspect’s actions, police said. The teen was booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The Gilroy Police Department is continuing to investigate the actions of the suspect and his associates. The department’s Anti-Crime Team and Graffiti Abatement Officer will continue to identify and investigate graffiti related crimes.
