A man suspected of injuring two people in a shooting at Stoney Court Apartments pleaded not guilty of the crime at a Tuesday hearing.
Tomas Martinez Romero, 21, pleaded not guilty to two charges of attempted murder for a March 27 incident where a man walked up to a car with five people in it and fired almost 10 rounds.
Police originally held another man in April on suspicion of the shooting, but released him a few days later.
The date for the preliminary hearing was set for March 13. The judge will decide whether or not there is enough evidence to force the defendant to stand trial.
“The purpose of the preliminary examination is to see some of the prosecutor’s cards,” said Javier Rios, the public defender assigned to Romero. “We’ll see if they go with police witnesses or live witnesses. It’s their call.”
