A 25-year-old armed man fled from Gilroy police and carjacked a van carrying a mother and her three children Wednesday night.
Jesse Silos was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle when he was stopped by police looking for him in connection to a domestic violence incident that Aug. 9 and a brandishing of a firearm incident that occurred Aug. 12, both in Gilroy. Silos took off on foot when his vehicle was stopped and ran through a residential neighborhood and into an alley near West 10th street and Fairview Drive.
In the alley, Silos forced his way into a vehicle driven by a mother and her three children, all younger than 9. He ordered the woman to drive away with him hiding in the back of the vehicle.
Police noticed the vehicle and the distressed look on the woman’s face. They stopped the vehicle and found Silos inside, hiding a gun and drugs. The narcotics along with other evidence located in the vehicle indicated that Silos was selling narcotics, police said. After a short struggle, Silos was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of carjacking, felony in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, resisting arrest and domestic violence.
The mother and her three children survived the incident without injuries.
