The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce last month honored a local volunteer who spends approximately 12 hours a week cleaning up graffiti and ripping down garage sale signs posted illegally on public property.
The Chamber awarded Marv Thomas, 80, with the Nob Hill Foods “Good Egg” award for his “spirit of volunteerism and a genuine desire to keep Gilroy looking clean and clutter free,” the organization announced in its newsletter.
Thomas routinely rolls about town, covering up tagged walls and, perhaps famously, removing garage sale signs and leaving their owners with advisory stickers warning, “Signs and graffiti prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted.”
After tabbing all his illegal finds, Thomas submits his work to the Gilroy Police Department and sends courtesy letters to offenders.
