I can’t even begin to explain my sadness and disappointment with
the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education and
Superintendent Debbie Flores when Rhoda Bress read the joint
statement at this past Thursday’s board meeting.

I can’t even begin to explain my sadness and disappointment with the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent Debbie Flores when Rhoda Bress read the joint statement at this past Thursday’s board meeting.
I fully anticipated that by this meeting they would have had time to review and reverse their decision and that the statement would have been announced as Jack Daley’s reinstatement.
Many of us have tried desperately to take Jack’s lead – to be positive, to look at it as a fork in the road rather than a road block, and to not respond negatively. However, their decision to dismiss him as athletic director and forbidding him from coaching students when it is not warranted is viewed as disrespectful and as an attempt at humiliation.
Furthermore, their refusal to understand that their information does not accurately represent events or where responsibilities fall or that they don’t have all of the information is viewed as very pig-headed.
The Board and the Superintendent’s behavior in this situation have shamed Gilroy High School, this school district, and the community in an immense way. They have created an overwhelming lack of confidence and lack of credibility with their actions.
It is not too late to make this right by immediately reinstating Jack. It’s not too late to start being the responsible and thoughtful leaders that they were elected and hired to be.
A modified version of this was e-mailed to all of the Board members and superintendent on June 4.
