Scheduled power outage at Gavilan College

A power outage is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 30 to transfer power for a Social Science Project at Gavilan College at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

The buildings affected will be the gymnasium, student center, administration and social science.

Students and staff are asked to power down their computers by Friday afternoon before leaving campus so no data is lost. Questions may directed to Jeff Gopp at (408) 710-7497.

Professional Development Day at Gavilan Community College

Spring 2011 Professional Development Day is planned for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Gavilan College at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

The focus will be on student success according to a press release, and will include panel discussions and an address from Jane Patton, president of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.

The cafeteria will also be open, providing services for staff wishing to purchase lunch.

The end of the day will conclude with an egg drop competition, the goal being to not break the egg by building the best cradle with the tools provided.

Fundraiser at Mimi’s Cafe for Gilroy Historical Society

The Gilroy Historical Society will be holding a fundraiser for the Gilroy Museum Endowment Fund Tuesday at Mimi’s Cafe in Gilroy at 6935 Camino Arroyo. Mimi’s will give 15 percent of all sales to the Gilroy Historical Society for all patrons who bring in a flier and present it when they pay the bill.

Fliers can be downloaded and printed from the Society’s website at gilroyhistoricalsociety.org. Hard copies can also be picked up Tuesday at the Gilroy Museum on 195 5th Street. Copies can be made from the Society’s newsletter as well.
