Tara Sharp and Ryker Block are engaged to be married.

Tara, daughter of Lenny and Teresa Sharp, received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. She is an assistant editor for TresSugar.com, the relationship and culture website for women’s media company Sugar Inc.

Ryker, son of Julie and Adrian Block, received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. He is a psychology graduate student.

Ryker and Tara met during their undergraduate studies at Point Loma University and began dating in 2007. Ryker proposed on Feb. 7, 2011, and they are getting married on Nov. 20, 2011, at the SmogShoppe, a renovated smog check center in Culver City.

ANNIVERSARY

Longs celebrate 30 years

Lyman and Vickie Long recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Previous residents of Hollister, they moved to Hawaii in 1988 and now live on a goat farm on the island of Maui.

Lyman was raised in Hollister and Vickie lived in Hollister for many years. The couple was married Aug. 2, 1981.

They say aloha to their family and friends and a special aloha to Donnie Williams for introducing them.

HONORS

Araceli Garcia Torres

Araceli Garcia Torres, of Morgan Hill, was recently named a Giants Community Fund annual Harmon & Sue Burns scholar. It recognizes students for their outstanding work both on and off the field. Intended to provide students with the incentive and motivation to realize their full potential, every season 10 scholars are selected the summer before they enter the eighth grade and receive a $2,500 scholarship upon successful completion of high school and acceptance to college or training program.

Ravil A Atlas II

Ravil A Atlas II, a senior from Morgan Hill, is on the spring 2011 honor roll in the School of Music at the University of Kansas. He is the son of Robin Church of Morgan Hill and a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in San Jose. More than 4,400 undergraduate students at KU earned honor roll distinction for the spring 2011 semester.

David Benninghoven

David Benninghoven, of Gilroy, graduated from Morrisville State College in May with a degree in equine science and management. He was also named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester.

Jayden Manuel Caballero

Jayden Manuel Caballero was born July 25, 2011 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Monique DeLaTorre Fregoso and Jaime Tovar Caballero of Gilroy. He weighed 9 pounds, 12 ounces.

Lidáh Grace Hurtado

Lidáh Grace Hurtado was born July 22, 2011 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Maria and Luis Hurtado of Gilroy. She weighed 7 pounds.
