Dear Editor,

In-fill development is the name of the game!

If we must have a high speed rail station in Gilroy then it should be downtown to bring people to our existing businesses.

An east Gilroy station would cripple Gilroy’s downtown as well as promote urban sprawl. If we truly need affordable senior housing, as in the Cherry Orchard Project, then the developer needs to make the project fit in Gilroy where infrastructure such as sidewalks, sewer, and water already exist. It should not be allowed to further urban sprawl or change Gilroy’s General Plan.

Both of these projects would destroy some of the last remaining fertile farmland in Santa Clara County which provides all of us with food, replenishes our ground water supply, and improves our air quality. We all need to encourage our elected officials to promote in-fill development and to say no to urban sprawl.
