The walking/driving tour will take place on Friday and Saturday,
May 6 and 7 at 10748 Green Valley Drive in Gilroy. Tours will begin
at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m., with final check in at 2 p.m.
Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event, with 100
percent of the proceeds benefiting local children’s programs.
Participants will enjoy complimentary appetizers and a no-host wine
bar, along with a Home and Garden Boutique at the conclusion of the
tour.

Church volunteers to help clean city
Approximately 400 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will help beautify Gilroy on Saturday as part of a community clean-up event, according to the City of Gilroy. Volunteers for “Mormon Helping Hands Day – Renewing California Communities” are expected to paint mile markers, spread top dressing on soil, trim shrubbery, remove weeds and collect trash at Christmas Hill Park and along the Uvas Park Preserve levee. They will wear distinctive yellow vests and will be aided by city maintenance crews.
Gavilan sets up scholarship
The Gavilan College Faculty Association has set up a scholarship in the memory of Don Santana, a Gavilan biology instructor for 26 years beginning in 1977 who passed away January 2010.
In honor of Santana, a scholarship will be awarded to a biology student with an emphasis in botany or environmental studies/ecology. The scholarship will be presented by Jessica Santana, Don’s oldest daughter, during graduation May 27 at Gavilan College at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. To contribute to the fund, make checks payable to the Gavilan College Educational Foundation with a note in the memo indicating “Don Santana Scholarship.” The entire amount of the contribution will go to the scholarship, and is tax deductible.

Gilroy Gardens pays city $37K
Gilroy Gardens paid the City of Gilroy its largest annual rent payment since the city bought the park three years ago.
The city received a check for $37,756 from the park, which is 10 percent of the park’s gross earnings, according to City Finance Director Christina Turner.
The money likely will go into the city’s public facilities fund, which is $3 million in debt, City Administrator Tom Haglund said
