The Cougars notched a pair of victories, defeating Watsonville on Thursday and Seaside on Friday.

Leading the charge, James Benson set a personal record in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a 27.2 on Thursday and followed that up with a PR in the 100 free (1:02.2) on Friday. Matt Higginbotham won the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.

On the girls’ side, though the team fell by one to Watsonville (68-67) and by 30 points to Seaside, Anna Higginbotham posted two Central Coast Section qualifying times. The junior, who also qualified for the section meet last season, recorded a 25.4 in the 50 free and a 55.3 in the 100.

“Her times are better than last season,” Ross said. “She is a hard worker and all business.”

The Cougars next meet is slated for April 29 at Monterey.
