– Various north and southbound lanes of Highway 101, at the
Highway 85 Interchange, between Metcalf and Bernal roads, will be
closed overnight this week for road work.

South San Jose – Various north and southbound lanes of Highway 101, at the Highway 85 Interchange, between Metcalf and Bernal roads, will be closed overnight this week for road work.

Workers will be removing outdated stripings and markings, and making final improvements to the interchange’s signage, and electrical and drainage systems.

The highway will remain open, but some lanes will be closed from 8pm to 5am through Friday.

Win cash, trip in AAA scholarship contest

AAA Travel is sponsoring its third annual AAA Travel High School Challenge. The contest begins with a 40-question online competition Jan. 10 to 19.

State winners will travel to Orlando, Fla., in May to compete for a first-place, $25,000 college scholarship.

The national contest is open to all students grades 9 through 12 in public, private or home schools.

Winners from all 50 states and the District of Columbia will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Universal Orlando in May to compete for scholarships totaling more than $100,000.

Find loving families for companion animals

Morgan Hill – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) need help to find loving families for the many homeless companion animals at the shelter and in foster homes.

Come to the FOSMAS petfair from noon to 5pm Saturday and Sunday at Petco in Morgan Hill.

Stop by to find a new furry friend; make a donation to help cover spay/neuter, food, and litter expenses; or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter.

Garlic Fest searches for 2005 art poster

Gilroy – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc. is accepting entries for the 2005 Art Poster Contest.

A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival.

In addition, the first place winner will receive 10 posters and one of each souvenir item produced with their artwork.

The second place winner will receive $400 and third place $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 27th Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, July 29, 30 & 31.

The deadline for entries is March 1 at 5pm. Entry forms and complete contest rules are now available from the Gilroy Garlic Festival office, 7473 Monterey St.
