The flowers are planted, the sidewalks have been widened and the
merchants are excited. Now all that’s needed is for you to bring
the family and show up
The fun starts at 3pm, and if you haven’t really taken a stroll through the renovated downtown, today is the day.
You can join in the effort to revitalize, reinvigorate and rebuild downtown through a simple act: Just show up and enjoy the entertainment – there are three stages of it – and see what the intense efforts from the city, developers and businesses have wrought.
It looks great, and plenty of folks have worked hard to pack the official downtown re-opening event with fun for everyone.
We can preach about the downtown’s importance – and we have for years – but ultimately it will succeed insofar as the businesses create opportunities for a fun experience that combines shopping, dining and enjoying life.
The partnership the city has formed with merchants, of course, is key to success and it’s quite clear that the groundwork has been laid.
So get out there, check out what’s going on downtown and support the “soul” of our city. It’s new, it’s improved and the opportunities, with your support, will keep growing.
There’s an Elvis Tribute Band playing at 4 pm and a hot dog eating contest at Ashford’s Heirlooms. Local wineries and our hometown brewery will be on hand as well. For the kids, there’s face painting and, of course, all the good music.
“The feeling downtown is now more open than ever. The sidewalks are wider, the street is wider. It’s a more inviting place than it used to be. I would hope people get a good feeling on the way it looks. The party will certainly bring people down that otherwise might not come and I’m sure everyone will find something that they didn’t even realize was here.” That perfect summation is from Dave Bennett, owner of High Gear Power Sports at 7661 Monterey St. who plans a big display out front.
Enough said, c’mon down and enjoy the party. It’s your downtown.
