Gilroy – A 30-year-old Gilroy man was shot and killed by an unknown suspect or suspects while at a residence in San Jose.
Cesar Saavedra was one of three shooting victims who were in a residence on 1900 block of Poco Way at 8:41am Sept. 11. The police responded to the shooting after reports of people on the block, which is full of town homes and apartment buildings, having heard shots fired.
Officers found Saavedra and 23-year-old San Jose resident Gonzalo Navarro dead at the scene. A 16-year-old, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The police are investigating the connection between the three males, given their age differences, that at least two males lived in different cities and that at least two males did not share the same last name, San Jose Police officer Jermaine Thomas said.
“It’s unknown whether this in fact was gang-related,” he said, adding that they had to keep that option open.
Thomas also would not release where the gunshot wounds were on the bodies, how many gunshot wounds there were, whether there were any other wounds or if there were any witnesses. He said doing so would be “detrimental” to the investigation because it would hamper police in interviewing witnesses.
There are no known suspects in the case and no arrests have been made, according to police.
