Here’s your latest digest of criminal happenings in Gilroy, including a commercial burglary, multiple residential burglaries, passing counterfeit currency, possession of knives on school grounds and theft from a parked vehicle.
Nightclub assault
On Dec. 9 at 2:11 a.m., the Gilroy Police Department arrested 23-year-old Brianna Gonzalez, of Gilroy, after she allegedly used a pair of high-heeled shoes to assault someone outside the El Rio Nilo club located at 7466 Monterey St. The victim sustained lacerations, contusions and abrasions to the top of the head and face and was transported to Saint Louise Regional Hospital. Gonzalez was booked in Santa Clara County Jail.
Suspect assaults mother of his unborn child
On Dec. 3 at 8:30 p.m. on the 7000 block of Eigleberry Street, 21-year-old Enrique Vega, of Gilroy, was arrested for assault after he allegedly slapped the mother of his unborn child, pulled her hair and dragged her into a closet during an argument. Vega was arrested for false imprisonment and infliction of bodily injury on a spouse or cohabitant.
Failed attempt at passing fake currency
A failed attempt at passing fake bills turned into a double arrest on Dec. 4 at 11:51 a.m. on the 7000 block of Camino Arroyo. Jade Ashley Davis, 27 of Sacramento, and Tamera Jane Links, 31 of San Francisco, were arrested for alleged possession of counterfeit currency.
“They had different denominations and more than $1,100 in counterfeit money,” said GPD Sgt. Pedro Espinoza. “Technically, the Secret Service is responsible for investigating counterfeit cases, but we can also investigate in on a local level.”
Possession of knives on school grounds
On Dec. 4 at 11:12 a.m., an 11-year-old student at Brownell Middle School was arrested for possession of a knife on school grounds. The student, whose name was not released due to his age, was allegedly found with two knives with 3-inch locking blades. He was cited and released to his parents, Espinoza said, and his case was forwarded to juvenile probation.
Theft of 25 Coach wallets
A commercial burglary by two Middle Eastern males was reported to the GPD on Dec. 4 at 12:40 p.m. after they entered the Coach outlet on the 8300 block of Arroyo Circle. They made off with 25 Coach wallets, valued at a combined $3,280.
Rental car smash-and-grab
On Dec. 5 at 11:15 a.m. in front of the Reebok store on the 8500 block of San Ysidro Avenue, an unknown suspect took five suitcases from a rental car. The suspect escaped with a black Nikon camera, valued at $2,000, $2,000 in cash and more than $600 worth of other goods.
