Gilroy Mustangs

The Christopher girls tennis was finally at full strength, having all its varsity players present for it’s match against Monte Vista Christian.
Having all their players certain helped the Cougars, as they cruised to a 5-2 win over MVC Thursday at home.
No. 1 singles player Emily Barham had a walk over as her opponent retired after just one game to do an illness. No. 2 Adena Chen kept things close in her first match, but eventually fell to MVC’s Katie Riordan 7-6, 6-2. 
No. 3 Liz Levan topped her MVC counterpart, Mckenna Paul, 6-4,6-0 and No. 4 Jade Bardrick won her match over Larissa Tao 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 for the Cougars. 
The Cougars’ No. 1 doubles team of Tiffany Roberts and Kaitlyn Lombardo won their match 6-2, 6-2 as did the No. 2 team of Kelly Nantais and Renata Vasconcelos by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. 
Christopher’s No. 3 team of Minna Wu and Sara Blawski lost 6-4, 6-1 to MVC however. 
Christopher will be back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Norte Dame. 
North Salinas beats Gilroy
The Gilroy tennis team lost 1-7 at North Salinas Thursday.
The Mustangs’ lone victory came off the racquets of No. 1 doubles team Caitlin Hollar and Nicole Holder.
Gilroy will host Monte Vista Christian at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Gilroy falls to Monterey
Gilroy kept things close, but lost a heartbreaker to Monterey Thursday at home.
The Mustangs fell 22-25, 23-25 and 25-27 to Monterey, dropping to 1-6 on the season. 

Leilani Mah and Sarah Weiby each came up with with five kills for Gilroy.
 
Bailie Erickson’s server receive passing along with Alexis Conley’s outstanding defense gave Monterey’s offensive attack a tough time. 
 
Gilroy came from behind in Game 2, generating the momentum needed to keep make the final game a nailbitter. 
 
The JV squad won its game 25-17, 25-21 over its MVC counterpart. Marie Bernards, Fatima Ortega and Evelyn Clonts came up with three kills in the game for Gilroy.
 
The Mustangs will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pajaro Valley. 
 
BOYS WATER POLO
 
Cougars fall to Palma
 
The Christopher boys water polo team lost 8-2 to Palma at home Thursday. 
 
The Cougars (6-4) scored two goals in the final period. Stats from this game were not immediately available. 
 
Christopher will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Scrimmage at 8 a.m. tomorrow against Gilroy. 
 
GIRLS WATER POLO
 
Salinas tops Christopher
 
The Christopher girls water polo team scored in each quarter against Salinas, but it wasn’t enough to lift the team to a win.
 
Salinas beat the Cougars 14-5 at home Thursday, dropping CHS to a 3-4 overall record on the season. Christopher scored two goals in the first and a goal in each quarter there after.
 
Stats from this game were not immediately available.
 
Christopher will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Scrimmage at 8 a.m. Saturday against Gilroy.
