Gilroy Police responded to several violent crimes this week. Here is a handful of those incidents:
Jaguar on the loose
A police officer was monitoring traffic near the Gilroy Premium Outlets when a man driving a green 2002 Jaguar zipped by at 2:53 p.m. on March 20. The driver allegedly revved his engine, sped, ran a red light, drove on the sidewalk and forced his car into a line of cars. When he was pulled over, the driver, Julio Requena, 34 of Patterson, was also found to be on parole. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.Â
Teens with loaded gun
Nineteen-year-old Reyes Pineda of Gilroy and his 17-year-old friend of Morgan Hill were arrested on the 900 block of Perreli Street for a long list of weapons violations at 8:28 p.m. on March 24. Officers attempted to stop their car for some traffic violations when the driver, Pineda, fled. When police caught up with the car, a third passenger took off running. Police initiated a search of the car and allegedly found a loaded concealed gun. Both Pineda and the minor were released to their with a court date. The third suspect was not caught.Â
Armed burglary
Two masked and gloved suspects broke a glass door and entered a home with two children on the 300 block of Fourth Street at 11:50 p.m. on March 24. One carried a handgun and the other a crowbar. A 14-year-old girl and a 16-month-old baby were in the home at the time, but nobody was injured and the suspects did left without taking anything.Â
Assault at Walmart
A woman was grabbed by a man she did not know in the Walmart parking lot on Camino Arroyo at 10:25 a.m. on March 25. The suspect asked her for her identifying information and blocked her from getting in her car. The victim said he held her car door so she could not open it for some time. The victim was able to open her door, get in her car and drive away when bystanders began yelling at the suspect.Â
