The Gilroy Garlic Festival is going high tech this year. A new smart phone app has been created for attendees that will display a live map of their location in Christmas Hill Park.
According to the Festival’s Executive Director Brian Bowe, the app is able to track a user’s path through a cell phone’s GPS system and provide a listing of all the names and locations of the booths on festival grounds.
In addition, the app will provide an entertainment schedule of when and where bands will be performing, along with an agenda of cooking events such as the Great Garlic Cook-off, coined by organizers as one of the most renown cooking festivals in the world.
“The app will show you where you are relative to the things going on around you such as the Children’s Area and Gourmet Alley, which is always popular,” Bowe said.
The purpose of the app is to inform people about the vendors, arts and crafts and food locations to make it easy for them to get where they want to go. The app will be available for free download a few days before the three-day festival begins Friday, July 26. Bowe said that smart phone owners simply have to click “app store” on their screen and then type “garlic festival” into the search bar.
The app was developed by the OMG Media Group, a partner of the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc. for the past six years that is based out of Monterey, California. The OMG Media Group also manages the video production, website updates, social media and online ticketing for the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc.
