Adrian Yanez

ENGAGEMENT: Poth/Lyles: Angela Elaine Poth and Ryan Aaron Lyles are engaged to be married.
Angela, daughter of Pamela Poth and Felix Poth, is a 2006 graduate of Live Oak High School. She attended Santa Clara University, Leavey School of Business, and has a bachelor’ degree in commerce, marketing. She is in services marketing at Cisco Systems.
Ryan, son of Jeanine Lyles and Robert Lyles, is a 2006 graduate of Brophy College Prep. He attended Santa Clara University, Leavey School of Business, and has a bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance. He is a senior financial analyst at Intel.
The couple plans a Nov. 9, 2013 wedding at Starfire Golf Course at Scottsdale Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Adrian Yanez
Air Force Reserve Airman Adrian R. Yanez graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Yanez is the son of Soila Rojas of Hollister and a 2004 graduate of San Benito High School.
Kati MacDonnell
Army Pfc. Kati K. MacDonnell has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
MacDonnell is the daughter of Janis and Stephen MacDonnell of San Jose and a 2009 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School, Morgan Hill. She earned an associate degree in 2012 from Foothill Junior College, Los Altos Hills.
James Gabbard
James Gabbard, from Live Oak High School, was named a semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
Matthew Benakovich
Matthew Benakovich, of Morgan Hill, has enrolled as a freshman at George Fox University of Newberg, Ore., this fall. Benakovich is one of 604 first-time freshmen joining the university. It is the biggest first-year class in the history of the institution and marks a 30-percent increase in freshman enrollment from the fall of 2012, when 423 enrolled.
George Fox University is ranked by Forbes among the top Christian universities in the country and is a Christian college classified by U.S. News & World Report as a first-tier regional university.
