MANTECA – Playing under the guidance of first-year manager Chris Wheat, the Silicon Valley Glory 13-and-under boys baseball team put together a quality run through a pool of eight teams at Manteca Field of Dreams in the 13AA Fall Challenge, finishing in second place last weekend.

“The boys played with commitment and heart,” Wheat said after the tournament. “The team has overcome many obstacles that traditionally plague first year teams and continue to improve each and every tournament. Hopefully this experience will be a stepping stone for the next tournament allowing the team to enjoy a different end result.”

After dropping its first game of the weekend, the Glory came away with a 7-3 win in Game 2 behind a complete game pitching effort from Dillon Day.

Strong offensive performances from Josh Boykin, Andrew Wood, Pablo Torres and Josh Wheat propelled the Glory to a 10-2 stomping of the Colt 45s in the semifinals Sunday, earning a trip to the finals to face the Morgan Hill Thrill.

One bad inning prevented the Glory from a first-place trophy.
