The Gilroy library will close Dec. 2 and reopen in January at its temporary location at 7652 Monterey St.

In 2008, Gilroy residents approved Measure F, a $37 million bond to rebuild the town’s cramped and leaky library at its current location at 7387 Rosanna St. During construction, the library will move to a temporary site downtown for about two years.

Reserved books that arrive at the library before it reopens downtown will be unavailable until January. Patrons may also change the pickup location of their books to another Santa Clara County library or make their holds inactive for now and reactivate them after the library reopens.

Patrons can also help by stocking up on library materials before the library closes. Most items borrowed just prior to the move will be due in February. Borrowers will enjoy an extended loan period and help the library staff by giving them fewer books to move.

The book drop in the current building will operate until the temporary library opens.

The bookmobile has regular stops in South County. Call 293-2326, ext. 3060 for details. For more information and services, visit http://www.santaclaracountylib.org/gilroy.
