Don’t take off your dancing shoes just yet. Fifth Street Live will continue downtown through the month of August.

The musical event, which takes place on Fifth Street between Monterey Road and Eigleberry Street, was originally set to end its summer schedule Friday, Aug. 5, but it will be shaking up downtown on Aug. 12, 19, and 26 as well. The shows run from 5 to 9 p.m.

“The event has been so well-received by the community, we wanted to see if this is something that has more longevity,” said Melanie Corona, Coordinator for the Gilroy Downtown Business Association.

Fifth Street Live has drawn record crowds thanks to GDBA’s partnership with Moveable Feast, the Silicon Valley-based food truck collective led by Ryan Sebastian. Moveable Feast will be present at the remaining nights.

Treatbot, Sebastian’s food truck, will be present August 5, as well as Waffle Amore, The Gow Chow, ROAD DOGS, 3geeks, Chick-n-Chill, Fish Taco Wabo, H. Butler’s BarBQ, Siam Loco Wraps, and I Love Cheesesteaks.

Musical guests for the rest of the series will include OTR on Aug. 5, Math Class on Aug. 12, BootLeg Band on Aug. 19, and the Kaye Bohler Band on Aug. 26.

“It’s a great decision that Fifth Street Live will be extending the event through the end of August,” said Math Class manager and backup vocalist Principal Missy. “We heard that there are lots of people that get there early, so we were able to work out an agreement to start at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. for those overachievers who are ready to learn the calculation of rock.”

The GDBA board only recently approved the extension, and Corona is thankful that the bands made themselves available on short notice.

Fifth Street Live will return to downtown Gilroy next summer, but it might take place on a different day of the week.

“It’ll affect our downtown businesses in terms of parking and accessibility, especially on Friday nights,” Corona said. “That is THE night for restaurants. We want to be respectful and collaborate with them.”

She encourages residents to come out to the remaining evenings for food, drinks, and good music.
“It’s a fantastic event for our community,” she said. “And that’s the goal: to bring community members together and create connections.”
