“I read your article about gas prices. How dare you write such an illiterate answer. Trade in your SUVs for a cheaper gas car – is that really your explanation for $5 gas? What about people who work in the trades and have to take numerous pieces of equipment to work and have to pay $5 a gallon for gas.
Are they supposed to go to work in Priuses? How do you carry equipment in the Prius? Whoever writes these articles does not have any contact with the real world. Why don’t we start drilling in Alaska? Start drilling in North Dakota, start drilling off the coast of New Orleans, off the coast of California and create our own surplus of gas and not pawn our reliance on oil off on other third world countries as we have done for years and gotten into wars over. It is not going to hurt the environment. We are already hurting the environment enough.”
& Red Phone: Dear Drill, Baby, Drill, You are correct. Many people can’t afford to give up their gas guzzling cars for something cheaper. But not everyone has large families or needs large cars for work. It is an option people might want to consider if it is possible. Speaking of the Prius, Toyota claims the 2012 Prius gets 50 mpg, more than double what most vehicles get now. So it might be worth looking into.
As for drilling, it appears we are heading toward drilling off the gulf coast of Florida after legislation in December allowed 21 million acres to be used to decrease our foreign dependence. Just last month, the U.S. and Mexican governments reached an agreement to open 1.5 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico for oil drilling. Shell has also begun plans to start drilling in the Arctic as well. But the BP oil spill disaster is still fresh in many people’s minds, and a lot of people oppose any type of drilling.
It is important during this time of year that you know what the candidates stand for and make wise decisions when voting. You might want to take a few minutes to write your congressman or senator to let them know your view on the issue.
