Gilroy – The Gilroy Health and Fitness staff will put on a Holiday Shopping Gift Fair every Wednesday 9am to 8pm at 8540 Church St., and sell handmade jewelry, candles, skin care products, clothing, and gift certificates to promote local businesses.

ADB presents the ‘Nutcracker’

Gilroy – The ADB Performance Group will be performing their interpretation of the Nutcracker. This presentation will take place at 6:30pm, Wednesday and Thursday in the school’s multi-purpose room. From 5:15 to 6:15pm there will a Nutcracker Festival Fundraiser with fun crafts, games and food.

Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the fifth grader’s field trips.

Tree lighting celebration

Gilroy – The second annual ‘Tree of Light Celebration’ is 5:30 to 7:30pm today, at Saint Louise Regional Hospital. The hospital tree will be lit at 6pm with lights that have been purchased in memory of or in honor of a loved one.

Refreshments will be served, donated by many of the local restaurants. Members of the Gilroy High School Chamber Choir will sing Christmas carols.

In addition, several florists and individuals have donated wreaths that will be available for sale as a silent auction. There are two raffle prizes, tickets are $1/ea or 6/$5 as well as door prizes.

The ‘Tree of Light’ is sponsored by the Volunteers, in cooperation with the Saint Louise Regional Hospital Foundation.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Maternal Health Department.

Interested in the downtown?

Gilroy – An organizational meeting for Downtown Business Association Board of Directors, downtown property and business owners, City of Gilroy Community Services, and any other interested parties will be held 7:30am, today at the Chamber by the Gilroy Downtown Business Association.

The purpose of the meeting is to begin working on the celebration plans. A light continental breakfast will be provided.

Fine unique gifts at art sale

Gilroy – Gavilan College faculty members Jane Rekedal and K.C. Gonzales and their students invite shoppers to the annual Gavilan College Ceramics Sale.

A wide variety of pottery and sculpture, mostly functional pieces, will be available for purchase. Creative and sometimes unusual pieces in many colors and styles will be offered at reasonable prices. This sale is much anticipated by the Gavilan College community and directly benefits the students of the art department.

Sale is 10am to 1:30pm Wednesday in the student center; 6 to 8pm Thursday in Art 101; and 9 to 11:30am Friday in Art 101.

Every child deserves a present

Gilroy – A Fundraiser for “Every Child Deserves a Present” Christmas gift giveaway for underprivileged kids will honor past, present and future leaders who have made a difference in the Gilroy Community.

This is a great opportunity to network with business, community and elected officials for a great cause.

Event is 7 to 9am, Friday and cost is $25 per person or $20 with gift for a child and includes breakfast buffet. Sponsor a table of 10 for $250. To get on the program RSVP by Dec. 5. Raffle prizes or silent auction items needed.

Open poetry reading slated

Gilroy – The Garlicky Group of Poets will hold a monthly poetry reading at 3:30pm, Saturday in the meeting room of the Gilroy Public Library located on Rosanna and Sixth streets.

Horseman’s Christmas party

San Martin – The SMHA annual Christmas Party will be held at 6:30pm at the Morgan Hill Grange Friday.

The fabulous Gilroy High School will be singing – their 11th year. SMHA will provide turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as drinks.

Everyone is asked to bring a potluck dish for the enjoyment of all and canned goods to be donated to a local charitable organization. Santa is invited to the party and guests are welcome.
