Gilroy – The Advisory Committee of the Gavilan College Cosmetology Department has awarded scholarship winners for the year 2006. They are senior Sharon Sherick $400; senior Nicolette Cole $400; intermediate student Deyanira Acosta $200; and freshman Ana Jimenez $100.
Teen scrapbooking
Gilroy – Teens are invited to meet at the Gilroy Library on Saturday, June 17 from 2 to 4pm for a free scrapbooking program. Scrapbook your memories from prom, graduation, summer vacations, or friendships. This is a free program and all materials will be provided.

Come and fly a kite
Gilroy – Experience the color and excitement of Kite Flying on Saturday, June 17, and let’s see how many kites we can fly up at Pacheco Pass. The Fifth Annual Family Kite Day will be held at Pacheco State Park, in a big windy field. Action is from 11am to 3pm. From Gilroy, take Highway 152 east. As you reach the top of Pacheco Pass turn on Dinosaur Point Road. The entrance to the park is just to the right.
Everyone who flies a kite will receive a souvenir Kite Day button. There will be other fun activities including a “Make Your Own Kite Free” table and free face painting, as well as Pie Eating Contests, Bubble Gum Blowing Contests, and a ‘candy-drop’ kite. The only fee is the $5 state park day use fee per car.

Friendly Music Makers
Gilroy – South Valley Music Makers begins its third year of musical celebrations Saturday, June 17, from 1 to 4pm at the Gilroy United Methodist Church, 7600 Church St. All interested performers and listeners are welcome to join the friendly group of musicians and music-lovers to share a few hours of good music and good friendship. Players at all levels of musical advancement may perform in any style and on any instrument, including voice, and listeners are always welcome.

Gilroy – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter is holding pet fairs on Saturday, June 17, from noon to 5pm at Petco-Morgan Hill and Petco-Gilroy. Stop by to find a new furry friend; make a donation to help cover spay/neuter, food, and litter expenses; or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter.

A taste of college
Gilroy – Students in grades three through eight can get ahead this summer by taking advantage of Gavilan College’s new program “College for Youth.”
The program includes more than 70 course options to give families flexibility during the summer. Choose from math, English, academic strategies, art, science and computers. The classes are two weeks long and begin June 26 and end Aug. 3. Most will be offered Mondays through Thursdays from 8am to 4pm. Class fees range from $49 to $69 per class.
Courses will be offered at the Gavilan College main campus in Gilroy and at the Morgan Hill site. Registration can be done by mail, fax, in person or online at www.gavilan.edu/ce.

10-Class GHS reunion
