With splashes of red, white and blue, as well as folklorico dancing, vintage vehicles and garlic, Gilroy celebrated those who served in the armed forces with a series of events on Nov. 11, Veterans Day. During the morning, people gathered in front of the Veterans Memorial Building for the annual Veterans Day Ceremony, hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6309, which featured speeches by local veterans, as well as Mayor Marie Blankley singing the veteran’s version of “Hallelujah.” In the afternoon, people lined Monterey Street downtown to cheer on veterans as they drove, rolled and walked in a parade, presented by the South Santa Clara Valley Memorial District and the Gilroy Veterans Hall, which also included various local businesses and organizations taking part.
