Gilroy – Alcoholic Beverage Control agents issued six citations at J. R. Brewski’s related to underage drinking last weekend.
One bartender, one adult patron and four minors all received misdemeanor citations at the 8080 Santa Teresa Boulevard restaurant following an ABC undercover operation, said Summer Roberton, ABC supervising investigator.
“We had received a complaint from an anonymous individual, just pretty much stating that there were minors consuming at the location,” Robertson said.
The minors – all 19 years old – were cited on suspicion of two violations each, minor in possession of alcohol and minor consuming alcohol in an on-sale premises.
Both the bartender and patron were cited for furnishing, giving or allowing alcohol access to minors.
The restaurant could face additional penalties.
“That’s still being decided right now,” Robertson said. “We’ll make a determination after the investigation is complete.”
The investigation could take 60 to 90 days, she said.
Owner Jeff Parsons explained that an older member of a group was brining drinks from the bar to underage girls, who he believes managed to get through the first layer of Friday night security with fake identification.
“It’s really hard for us to keep up with things on Friday night, unlike the rest of the week when bartenders card individually.”
ABC agents conduct enforcement primarily on a complaint basis, Robertson said, but also makes visits to locations as needed.
Agents will be at the Garlic Festival this weekend, as they are every year, she said.
