Friends and family of Maria Barrios, 21, have opened an account for her and her 4-year-old son, Edgar, at Washington Mutual Bank in Gilroy. Barrios’ husband, Eleazar “Jose” Jimenez Perez, 33, was killed in an auto accident Feb. 4. Edgar and Barrios were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Edgar was treated and released from the hospital; Barrios is still hospitalized. At the time of the collision, Barios was eight months pregnant. The baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section but did not survive.

Donations may be sent to Washington Mutual account number 4863595802. The accident occurred when an alleged drunken driver, Douglas Robeson, 27, of Merced, slammed into the vehicle driven by Perez. Robeson was arrested on two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
