Remember those tee shots you hit in August that would fly down the fairway like a low line drive and when they hit the ground they would roll another 30-40 yards. Your playing partner would hit a nice high floating tee shot and you would always out drive him.
Go out and hit those same shots during the winter and the results will be opposite. The ball simply does not roll in the winter so if you rely on that for alot of your yardage its time to make a winter time adjustment to your driver.
To achieve a higher launch angle so the ball carries in the air further follow these few simple steps:
TEE HEIGHT: Make sure your ball is teed high enough so at least 1/2 the ball is above the top of your driver.
BALL POSITION: Have that ball placed forward in your stance just off the instep of your left foot.
SHOULDER TILT: Tilt your shoulders slightly so the left shoulder is slightly higher that the right. This angle reperesents the same angle the club head will strike the ball.
HEAD POSITION: Position your head so it’s behind the ball at address and impact. This will also help you hit the ball on the slight upswing thus projecting the ball up in the air at a good launch angle to achieve the maximum amount of carry.
You can compare the launch angle of a driver to that of a cannon. If the cannon is tilted too low the shell won’t stay in the air long enough and it will fall short of the target. If the cannon is tilted up too high it shoots too high up in the air and will also fall short of the target. The proper angle gets the most distance and will reach the target with the same amount of force
