Dear Editor,
Anti-public education proponent Alan Viarengo pulls me into a parcel tax discussion, then refuses to justify his own opinion with any substantive research. I demonstrated with multiple research citations as to why communities investigate parcel taxes, to which Viarengo responds with a whimper alluding to nothing, and he has no clue where I stand on parcel taxes. Do the research, man, and give us something substantive to chew on!
Why doesn’t Viarengo demonstrate any state budgetary knowledge? He doesn’t care to. It’s easier to not think. Applying increased state revenues to constitutional derived laws (as in legally funding schools via Prop. 98 as state revenues increase) is not a tax increase. With the increased tax revenue for 2004-05, Schwarzenneger has given an additional $1.3 billion to transportation. This is not a tax increase. Do your homework, Viarengo.
Viarengo states that “Private schools provide a far superior environment on two-thirds the per-pupil budget'” but gives no research to validate his comment. But it does sound good doesn’t it? Now, just show us the data to support it, Mr. Viarengo, before we blindly accept it.
