Scoop No. 2:
”
Hi, I’m wondering what’s going on at the site of the old Nob
Hill. There’s a lot of congestion and traffic and a lot of big
trucks. Just a lot of traffic and dirt that’s been moved and I’m
wondering what is being built there. Haven’t seen anything in the
paper lately, so if someone could give us the scoop. Thank you.

Scoop No. 2: “Hi, I’m wondering what’s going on at the site of the old Nob Hill. There’s a lot of congestion and traffic and a lot of big trucks. Just a lot of traffic and dirt that’s been moved and I’m wondering what is being built there. Haven’t seen anything in the paper lately, so if someone could give us the scoop. Thank you.”
Good caller, you’re not a regular Red Phone reader, are you? The Red Phone’s hurt – it researched this very thing for another caller just a week and a half or so ago. It will repeat the information it found out, but only if you promise to read its column every Wednesday and Saturday. You promise? OK, here’s the scoop:
The Red Phone touched base with the city’s planning department and got some information on the old Nob Hill site from Greg Polovinsky, who said the construction process has begun on an apartment complex.
“(The site will contain) 170 luxury apartment units in different kinds of formats such as townhouse or apartment flats,” according to Polovinsky. “… they’re starting the assembly of a lot of the wood products they’ll be using in construction behind the site.”
But he wasn’t quite sure the completion date.
“I don’t know exactly the schedule, but they did go through their pre-construction meeting and they’re starting construction,” he said.
News soaked through: “Hi Red Phone, I just wanted to make a comment about deliveries. I woke up this morning and received my newspaper on the lawn and it’s completely soaked because of the sprinklers. So if you could please ask your drivers to throw the papers in the driveway so they stay dry. Thanks.”
You got it, caller. The Red Phone passed your call and suggestion along to the circulation department.
But keep in mind, should the delivery person miss the driveway in the future, and should the sprinklers spray your daily news, feel free to call the circulation department at 842-2327 and they will be more than happy to deliver you a new – and dry – Dispatch.
Postal problems: “Hi, I hope you put this one in there because the last couple of times I’ve called, you haven’t done it, so here goes. I’m calling about the postal workers delivering the mail. I’ve had the same problem … this is ridiculous. (Postal workers are) getting paid to do a job and that is to deliver the mail. So you’ve got to get out of the little mail truck and put a little mail in a mailbox. That’s the way it used to be. Everybody walked to the mailbox to deliver the mail. … She’s (Patricia Finley, postal employee named in May 28, ‘Do not dismount’) going to drive to each little house? C’mon, how much gas and time does that take up? Do your job, get out of the car, get some exercise and deliver the mail. You deliver the mail in the rain and snow, but you can’t because of a garbage can? How ridiculous is that? Get a grip. Our family has a new young man who delivers the mail and he doesn’t have a problem. They’re supposed to be doing a job for us, we’re not supposed to be doing a job for them. Again, please print this! Thank you, bye.”
There it is caller – with some minor editing. The Red Phone thanks you for your calls and apologizes for not publishing your last two calls – but it does vaguely remember them.
The Red Phone appreciates all messages, but it asks that every caller keep in mind that derogatory comments or phone calls with inappropriate language will not be considered for publication. And lastly, Red Phone reserves the right to edit calls and does so on occasion when the basic idea of the call can remain unchanged.
So, readers, what do you think? What do you think about postal workers not delivering mail? Or perhaps you want to recognize a postal worker for doing a great job? Contact the Red Phone at 842-9070 or e-mail
