Fernando Lares, Gilroy soccer

Lares scored two of Gilroy’s three goals in its 3-0 shutout of Christopher in the “El Classico” Jan. 31. The scores were his eighth and ninth of the season. Lares scored both goals in the second half and the first was assisted by David Solarzono. He secured the win with a freekick goal.Â
Mari Rodriguez, Gavilan softball

Rodriguez hit an RBI-double in the bottom of the eight to lift Gavilan to an 18-17 win over Reedley on Jan. 29. On Tuesday she walked three times, one of which drove in a run, in Gavilan’s 8-4 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Porterville. In Game 2, she walked and scored twice.Â
