GILROY – A man who got away with robbing the Bank of the West branch at Monterey and First streets Aug. 20 was “caught in the act” of another robbery last week in Southern California, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported to city police Thursday.

After the man’s arrest, he admitted to robbing banks in Gilroy and Monterey in the past, Gilroy Police Department Detective Daniel Zen reported from his correspondence with an FBI agent.

Neither the man’s identity nor further information about the Southern California incident were available, as the FBI released little information to the GPD. The FBI could provide no further information as of press time.

The man was caught on videotape waiting in line at Bank of the West on the afternoon of Aug. 20. He did not show a weapon during the robbery but demanded cash from the clerk. He was given about $800 and fled on foot.
