GILROY – The Gilroy High baseball team’s four-game winning streak was snapped last Thursday as the Mustangs fell to league-foe Monterey in a tight 6-3 decision.

The Mustangs are now 8-6 in MBL, sitting in fifth place, while the Toreadors are 11-3 in MBL, sitting in third place.

Gilroy opened the scoring with one run in the third, but Monterey countered with two of its own in the fourth. Although the Mustangs added runs in the fourth and seventh frames, the Toreadors’ four-run sixth inning was enough to complete the two-game series sweep of Gilroy.

For the Mustangs, junior outfielder Jon Kirkish went 2-for-2 and third baseman Kyle Kretz finished 2-for-3 to lead their seven-hit attack. Senior starter Kurt Simmons took the loss.
