SALINAS – The Gilroy High baseball team avenged Friday’s extra-innings 4-3 loss to Palma with an 8-5 triumph Saturday.
For the second day in a row the regulation seven innings were not enough to decide a winner between the two Tri-County Athletic League teams.
The Chieftains scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5 and send it into extra innings.
After neither team made any noise in the eighth, the Mustangs put three runs on the board in the top of the ninth and were able to maintain the advantage in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.
Both squads are 5-1 in TCAL play.
