Christopher's Hanna Tabron drives the ball down the court as Los Gatos keeps a tight defense during their first round Central Coast Section game Tuesday.

Christopher High School girls basketball player Hanna Tabron signed Monday to play college basketball at Vanguard University, an NAIA power in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Tabron, a senior guard, signed with the Lions during a ceremony in Christopher’s gym before Monday’s practice.

“It’s exciting. It’s nice to know that I’m going to go somewhere and continue playing, and now all the hard work begins to get there,” Tabron said.

The 5-foot-11 sharpshooter is one of the top scorers in the Central Coast Section.

Tabron hit four 3-pointers on her way to 28 points in a 52-47 win over San Benito on Saturday for the Watsonville Tournament title. She won Most Valuable Player honors at the tournament.

Christopher coach Heather Stewart said Tabron is the first Cougars player, male or female, to receive a basketball scholarship in the school’s brief history.

“I’m very excited for Hanna,” Stewart said. “Hanna has a lot of potential that she doesn’t even know she has yet. I’m super proud of her.”
