Fire consumes two homes in west Gilroy

Two structures in west Gilroy were destroyed Monday after a guesthouse caught fire and eventually spread to the main house nearby. Firefighters were called to 7945 Whitehurst Road at 12:30 p.m. and when they arrived, the guesthouse was engulfed in flames, according to a Cal Fire spokesperson.

Firefighters knock out blaze in Gilroy garage

GILROY—A family of three living inside a garage in a home along the 400 block of Fairview Drive was displaced Monday, after the building caught fire just before 11 a.m. Gilroy firefighters extinguished the structure fire within 15 minutes, according to Gilroy Fire Department Division Chief Chris Weber.

Apartment patio fire extinguished in MH

Fire crews quickly extinguished a residential structure fire on the patio of an apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. Fire trucks responded to the fire at 215 Del Monte Avenue about 4:30 p.m. CalFire Battalion Chief Brandon Leitzke called the blaze a “small fire,” and did not result in any injuries or significant damage. The initial investigation determined the fire was caused by a lit cigarette discarded “too close to combustible” materials, Leitzke said. 

Calfire warns of dangers as dry lightning moves in

Calfire increased its staffing due to dry lightning and strong winds throughout much of northern California. A low pressure system along the coast is bringing subtropical moisture, which is causing isolated thunderstorms across northern and central California, many of which have little to no rain with them.
