Adopt Harry

Harry is a 2-year-old pit bull who is lovable and doesn't bark. He loves to play with toys and go for walks. He has been at the San Martin Animal Shelter since July and would love to find a forever home. Interested? Call (408) 686-3900.

Chuckie and Buddy: Healing from loss

My Chuckie of almost 17 years was my life. He was the most sweet, loving, caring cockapoo a person could ever ask for. He gave me strength during my mother’s heart attack. He faithfully followed me around while I grieved for my husband Leonard at the time when he had a cardiac arrest. I would find him faithfully behind our door waiting for me daily until I came home from work. I could hear his barks greeting me as I would drive up. He slept in my bed with me every night and sat next to me downstairs as we would watch TV together. We would take walks together, visit the beach and even attend baseball games together.

Toffey and Posey: ‘Doggie Luv’

Toffey and Posey, half brother and sister, are my two very best furry friends! As the owner and mother of two doggie kids, I love both my schnoodles (schnauzer/poodle mix) the same, and that, of course, is a whole, whole lot. I am so lucky to have two waggily tails as my two very best friends. Why are they my best times two buddies?

Rusty: A part of the family

We would like to tell you about our dog, Rusty. He is an English cocker spaniel and he came to us four years ago in a terribly neglected state. He has become a huge part of our family and we all adore him terribly, he even now goes on vacations with us.

Mack and Shy: Ambassadors for the breed

In March 2010, I adopted a pit bull that we named Mack from the San Martin Humane Society. At the time, I didn’t really notice there was another dog in the kennel with him. I was only interested in adopting one dog. About three weeks later, my husband noticed the Pet of the Week in the Gilroy Dispatch and mentioned how much she looked like Mack. We went to see her and found out that she had been brought in as a stray with another dog, but he’d been adopted and she’d been lonely and depressed. As we got more of the story, we found out the other dog was Mack. So we brought him to see her. When they saw each other, it was an amazing reunion. They ran and jumped on each other, licked each other and finally laid down together to rest. What a love story … we adopted Shy and brought them both home.

Lobito: The great escape artist

Lobito (which means little wolf) is a white male Chihuahua with short legs and really bad breath that smells like a dead rat. He just walks and does not bark too much; also he is blind at night. We celebrated his 15th birthday on Sept. 24.
