Morgan Hill police arrested three people with a trove of stolen property after making a routine traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by two of the suspects early Friday morning, authorities said. About 3 a.m. Friday, an officer stopped a vehicle occupied by Adam Stout, 29 of Milpitas, and Brianne Campana, 22 of San Jose for a traffic violation, according to a press release from the Morgan Hill Police Department. The officer learned that Stout was on probation and police conducted a search of the vehicle, police said. Found in the vehicle were an unspecified amount and type of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Police also learned that Stout and Campana were staying in a room at the Quality Inn, 16525 Condit Road, and officers searched the room, according to the press release. Found inside the hotel room were more than 70 pieces of stolen property from six different cities in two counties, according to police. A third suspect - Karlee Douglas, 19 of San Jose - was in the room when officers arrived, and she was arrested, police said. All three suspects were booked at Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics, probation violation and being under the influence of a controlled substance, police said. Anyone with information about this case can contact MHPD at (408) 779-2101, or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867. 

A San Jose man was arrested after leading Morgan Hill police on a high-speed chase that originated with a report of loud music, police said. About midnight Wednesday, officers responded to the area of Del Monte Avenue and Preservation Way after someone called to report loud music coming from a parked Lexus, according to an MHPD press release. As officers arrived on scene, the vehicle fled to a home on the 15000 block of Del Monte Avenue and three occupants of the Lexus fled into a house, police said. Police ran the Lexus’ license plate and learned the vehicle’s registered owner was wanted on a no-bail warrant, the release said. Officers questioned two of the three people who fled into the nearby residence, and they were uncooperative. Officers stayed at the scene to keep an eye on the parked Lexus, and after about an hour the car was seen leaving the residence, police said. Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver led police on a high-speed pursuit to San Jose, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to continue to flee on foot on Aborn Road. Police caught up to the suspect, later identified as Brandon Harrell, 23 of San Jose, and arrested him, according to police. Police arrested a suspected thief after a resident observed the man stealing mail out of mailboxes on a north Morgan Hill residential street, according to authorities. Morgan Hill police were dispatched to the 19000 block of Cheyenne Court on a report of a suspicious person about 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to an MHPD press release.Officers contacted the suspect, Erik Gonzales, 36 of San Jose, on suspicion of possession of stolen mail and possession of a stolen vehicle, police said. The resident who reported the crime told dispatch they saw Gonzales removing mail from mailboxes along the street and placing the items into an orange Mitsubishi convertible, police said. When officers arrived to the neighborhood, they located the Mitsubishi which had paper dealership plates, according to the release. Police approached the vehicle and saw Gonzales sitting inside. The car “was filled with stolen mail from nearby houses (and) in fact the vehicle he was sitting in was also stolen out of San Jose,” police said. Gonzales was booked into Santa Clara County Jail, according to police. Police gave credit to the resident who reported Gonzales’ suspicious behavior for helping to arrest the suspect. Anyone with information about this case can contact Morgan Hill Police at (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867. 

After staking out a stolen vehicle outside a Morgan Hill hotel, officers arrested three suspects on suspicion of counterfeit currency and controlled substance violations, police said.

Morgan Hill police arrested a former Safeway employee and his accomplice after the pair allegedly stole about $20,000 cash from the grocery store’s safe early Thursday morning. Just past midnight Aug. 22, Mario Bellinghausen, 22 of Santa Nella, entered the store wearing a surgical mask to hide his identity, according to a press release from Morgan Hill Police. As a former Safeway employee, Bellinghausen was entrusted with the code to the store’s safe. He even spoke to his former manager at the store just before the heist. Bellinghausen stole more than $20,000 from the store's safe and was seen running out of the store to get away in his car, police said. Later that day, officers located Bellinghausen with half of the stolen cash, police said. Then on Aug. 24, police identified and arrested Yesmith Sandoval, 22 of Los Banos, at a pizza parlor in Los Banos, police said. She had the remaining loot from the burglary, minus a share used by Bellinghausen to bail out of jail. Both were booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of conspiracy and burglary, police said.Police think the pair orchestrated the burglary as a retaliation to Safeway for terminating Bellinghausen’s employment at the store. Detectives recovered “nearly all” of the cash stolen from Safeway, police said. Anyone with information about this case can contact Morgan Hill Police at (408) 779-2101. 

Gilroy Police officers responded to an attempted bank robbery at approximately 4:36 p.m. Friday at Citibank, located at 7050 Camino Arroyo in Gilroy.

Police throughout Santa Clara County arrested 57 motorists suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the first weekend of the annual Labor Day DUI crackdown campaign, according to a press release from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. The arrests were made from just after midnight Friday through midnight Sunday, authorities said. The crackdown effort, known as “Avoid the 13,” included a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint at the intersection of Dunne Avenue and Joleen Way in Morgan Hill, where officers arrested one DUI suspect, according to Morgan Hill police. The Gilroy Police Department will conduct a similar checkpoint in Gilroy Friday night, also as part of the annual effort by local law enforcement to keep impaired drivers off the roads during one of the summer’s busiest holiday periods, according to police.Residents can receive real-time updates on checkpoint activities and DUI arrests by following the Sheriff’s Office on Twitter at @SCCOSHERIFF, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup. Funding for the Avoid the 13 campaign, which includes saturation patrols as well as checkpoint activities, is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, authorities said. The summer campaign will continue through midnight Monday, Sept. 2, according to the press release. 

Authorities are looking for three men who led police on a chase that reached 120 mph on the U.S. 101 after allegedly attempting to burglarize a Morgan Hill home. Morgan Hill police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a home on the 2000 block of Pinto Court Wednesday night, according to a press release from MHPD. Three Hispanic men were seen jumping a fence surrounding the backyard of a home on the court, and breaking a window out of that home to make entry, police said. A resident was at home upstairs during the break-in. The suspects fled before stealing any property, police said. Police saw the suspects fleeing the scene and chased after them, the press release said. The suspects, traveling in a 1999 Audi Station Wagon, were pursued northbound on U.S. 101, at speeds up to 120 mph. Police called off the pursuit due to public safety concerns when the vehicle and patrol cars reached heavy traffic, police said. The suspects continued to drive recklessly on the shoulder of the freeway at high speeds, evading officers, according to police. The suspicious vehicle was registered out of Oakland, and the registered owner of the vehicle told police he sold the car several months ago, police said. Police are now seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect vehicle, which has a license plate of 4GTT297, authorities said. The vehicle has damage to the right quarter panel and does not have tinted windows. Police also reported Thursday they have responded to a series of recent residential burglaries that happened in quick succession. Four of these burglaries happened during daylight hours Wednesday, and officers think the suspects involved are from different areas from Morgan Hill to Oakland and Sacramento. Detectives have also noticed a pattern in the daytime burglaries, in which the suspects are ringing the doorbell or knocking on doors before forcing entry into the home, police said. “Police encourage people who are not expecting guests to call police if they suspect foul play, and make noise to ward off burglars,” the press release said. “Also, be vigilant and keep reporting suspicious persons, cars and activity.” Anyone with information about these crimes can contact Morgan Hill police at (408) 779-2101, or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867. 

Police arrested a San Jose man Tuesday after he used one of 30 fake credit cards in his possession at a Morgan Hill grocery store, authorities said. A loss prevention officer at Safeway grocery store on Tennant Avenue notified Morgan Hill police about the man after he used one of the fraudulent credit cards to purchase items at the store, according to a press release from MHPD. The man, later identified as Keith Brown, 22 of San Jose, was sitting in his car outside Safeway when officers contacted him, police said. He also had a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of DUI, out of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Police were assisted by Safeway, Star One Credit Union of San Jose and Travis Credit Union of Vacaville to determine that Brown had been using more than 30 stolen credit card account numbers to purchase thousands of dollars worth of gift cards at Safeway stores throughout the Bay Area, police said. The County’s Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team, a high-tech fraud task force, assisted Morgan Hill detectives with the investigation, according to the press release. Agents think Brown was manufacturing fake credit cards from his home. Brown was arrested on suspicion of identity theft, burglary and use of a fraudulent credit card, police said. Police remind residents to periodically check their bank accounts and immediately report any fraudulent activity to the authorities. Anyone with information about these crimes can contact Morgan Hill Police at (408) 779-2101.

Morgan Hill police Wednesday night arrested a man believed to be a suspect in a series of recent burglaries in town, authorities said. Officers were dispatched to the area of Barnell Avenue Wednesday night on a report of a suspicious man in the backyard of a residence, according to a press release from the Morgan Hill Police Department. When officers arrived, witnesses said they saw the man fleeing the area on a bicycle toward Dunne Avenue, police said. Officers soon found the suspect’s discarded bicycle in the yard of a home on Dunne Avenue near Del Monte Avenue. Police established a perimeter around the area, and witnesses led officers to the Dollar Tree store located in a shopping center at the corner of West Dunne Avenue and Monterey Road, the press release said. As police entered the front door of Dollar Tree, the suspect ran out through the rear doors and was tackled by officers as he ran through the Monte Vista Apartments complex, police said. The suspect, later identified as Jaime Alvarado, 33 of Morgan Hill, had multiple warrants for his arrest, police said. He was taken into custody without further incident. Alvarado is also believed to be responsible for a series of recent burglaries in Morgan Hill, though police did not offer further information on those crimes. Alvarado was booked at Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest, police said. Police noted that the case would not have been solved, nor the property recovered as quickly as it was, without the help of nearby residents “to get involved and report suspicious activity.”
