“I had my car smogged recently. Apparently it didn’t pass with them because the check engine light wasn’t turning on. The guy said that his machine checked it and it failed three times. When I took the car to a second location, it passed no problem. I mentioned about the machine the other guy was using. He said it doesn’t take a machine to check the engine light. You have to do it manually. You have to turn the key yourself and see if the check engine light comes on. I was wondering if it takes a machine to see the check engine light or if it is done manually.”
“Dear Red Phone, Does the city of Gilroy have a contract with Bracco towing to pick up parking violation vehicles or are they suppose to use a “rotation” system as CHP does? IF there is a contract or whatever between Gilroy and Bracco then wouldn’t that be a conflict of interest? And the fact that Bracco’s wife has been a city employee during his time on the council, would that be a conflict also? Does it seem as though Mr. Bracco is using his “seat” and his wife or whomever it is that gave him information to play some very ugly games to discredit his opponent so he can be elected as mayor?”
“I was calling with an eyesore of the week. When you go around 10th Street around the corner by the high school and Christmas Hill Park the back wall has either fallen down or been taken down. It has been several months where these poor people have their backyard exposed. I was just wondering is it the homeowner’s responsibility or the city’s responsibility. Maybe the wall fell down or was damaged and the poor people can’t afford to put it back up. Just wondering if there is something that could be done to help them.”
“I am inquiring when they are going to fix this sink hole on Eighth and Forest streets. The barricade has been up there for more than a week. It sank once already. They filled it with cold seal. As soon as the rain came, it sank again. People go flying by here doing 50 mph. They are going to end up crashing. If they have a barricade, they know there is a problem and they should fix it. Thanks.”
Dear Red Phone: "My daughter is in fourth grade at Eliot Elementary School. She starts at 7 a.m. For the last couple weeks they have made her stay an extra hour after school to prepare for the state test so she got out at 3:15 p.m. Basically I feel they are cramming. None of the other schools in Gilroy are doing this I believe.
“Is Santa Teresa Boulevard from Hecker Pass to Gavilan College scheduled to be resurfaced and finished anytime soon? Is the contractor going to come back to finish the job?”
“Red Phone, it seems several times a year unwanted phone books show up on our doorstep. How can we tell the publishers we do not want them? Is there a number to call? It sure is a huge waste of paper and other resources to produce and distribute these books to people that don’t even ask for them. Something should be done.”
“I was at Longhouse last night. We asked for a pitcher of lemonade and a pitcher of water. It costs us $21. I would like to know why lemonade costs $15 for pitcher and $6 for a pitcher of water. I think that is ridiculous. We go there all the time to dance but we are not drinkers. I don’t know why it should cost so much for a pitcher of a drink. I’m sure it costs less for a pitcher of beer. Thank you.”
“I was wondering if it was legal for food trucks to release, what I am presuming is water, all over the road? There is a food truck that drives down Bolsa Road in the mornings and leaves a long trail of liquid all over the road. On these cold mornings, it starts to freeze and gets a little dangerous.”
“People are leaving their cars parked for sale on the south side of First Street from Carmel to Church Street. It looks like a used car lot. Last time this happened on the north side of First Street the city decided instead of tagging the cars to put up two-hour parking signs. I have visions of these two-hour parking signs all over the city rather than the city coming out and tagging the cars making it known it is illegal to park on city streets with ‘for sale’ signs.”
