Don’t let the seeds fool you. Gilroy reached the Central Coast Section Division II softball playoffs by the skin of its garlic, winning four of its final six games in Tri-County Athletic League play.

Sheriff’s search and rescue personnel will be conducting a search effort in the area of south Morgan Hill this afternoon, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza. The ground search operation will focus on open fields and construction sites and zones in south Morgan Hill.

In a move that could solve the Bulldogs’ quarterback search before the first whistle of spring camp, former San Benito QB Michael Bocksnick has transferred to Sobrato High School, SHS associate head football coach Albert King said Monday.

Of late, I have been thinking about how vulnerable our students are. At Sobrato this year we have now had two tragic events affect our student population. In the fall, there was the shooting death of Tara Romero, along with the injuries of three other students. And now it is three weeks since the disappearance of Sierra LaMar, who was abducted while walking to the school bus stop the morning of March 16. Of course we are all hoping that she will be safely returned to her family.  

Another search-and-rescue effort to find missing 15-year-old Sierra LaMar is scheduled for today, and will include sheriff’s office dive teams searching underwater in South County reservoirs. 

Hundreds of local teenagers, parents, artists and performers attended a fundraiser Friday night to honor the memory of Tara Romero, and to encourage each other to face the loss of their friend with collective support.

In an effort memorialize 14-year-old drive-by shooting victim Tara Romero and to encourage Morgan Hill's youth to express themselves freely and actively, a group of local parents and teens will host an art show and fundraiser Jan. 13.
