It didn’t take long for Gilroy to secure its championship.
From the start of the season, Gilroys’ goal was to reach the Central Coast Section Division II finals. On Wednesday, that goal was achieved. After falling to Los Altos early, the Mustangs bounced back to top the Eagles 2-1 in seven innings at San Jose PAL Stadium. The win sends Gilroy to the finals where they will take on Mt. Pleasant at 3 p.m. on Saturday. “We’re pretty excited right now,” Mustangs coach Julie Berggren said. “This is definitely something the girls have been working on the entire season. It’s a goal we set at the beginning at the year. We’re really, really excited.”
It was score or go home for Gilroy.
City Council plans to vote on whether or not to accept an added expenditure of $47,800 for construction improvements to the softball diamond at Sunrise Park, west of Santa Teresa in the northwest quad, or downsize the project.
The 2012 high school sports season will be a little different for schools in Gilroy and Hollister. After more than two years of discussion, the 2012 season will be the first in an equity league between the former members of the Tri-County Athletic League and the Monterey Bay League.
