A teenage BMX rider was airlifted Tuesday morning to Valley Medical Center in San Jose after crashing his bike in Christmas Hill Park, according to the Gilroy Fire Department.
The 15-year-old boy was riding off dirt jumps with his friends near the Uvas Creek Levee west of Miller Avenue when the accident occurred, said GFD Battalion Chief Phil King.
“He apparently went off one of the jumps and had some sort of mishap and went head first into the mound,” King said.
The boy likely suffered head injuries, at least a concussion, King said.
Paramedics had to transport the boy via ambulance from the area near the creek a few hundred yards to the helicopter, King said.
He said emergency crews first arrived to the scene at 9:39 a.m.
