Brownell Middle School seventh-grader Eric Archer has been getting A’s and B’s since third-grade and last semester he earned a 4.0 GPA. Archer is being honored at the National Young Leaders State Conference this weekend.  His PE teacher Laurie Avey nominated Archer.

Veterans lend your opinion to Gavilan

Military veterans enrolled as students at Gavilan College are encouraged to attend a meeting where they can voice their ideas about how the college can better serve veterans and their families.

The meeting will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday inside classroom BU 103 at Gavilan College, located at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy.

Christopher High School: Golfers For Grads Tournament

Christopher High School advocates are tirelessly working to make sure their seniors get the memorable send off they deserve.The annual Golfers for Grads Tournament benefitting CHS’s Sober Grad Night 2012 will take place April 20 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course, located at 2951 Club Dr. in Gilroy.

Registration for the “scramble style” tournament will take place at 10 a.m. with tee time scheduled for noon.

The cost is $149 per person and includes the greens fee, cart, range balls, box lunch and buffet dinner. Tickets for just the buffet dinner can be purchased for $40. There will be prizes for low net score, closest to the hole and the longest drive; in addition to a raffle. Hole sponsorships are available.

Christopher High School: Camaro raffle

CHS is selling $20 raffle tickets for a 2012 Chevy Camaro. Proceeds will directly support the first-ever CHS Sober Grad Night on June 1.

Gilroy High School and Ascension Solorsano Middle School: E-Waste Recycling Fundraiser

An E-Waste Recycling Fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) at the corner of First Street and Kelton Drive in Gilroy.

The drive will benefit a student science camp, student promotions and teacher wish lists at Gilroy High School and Ascension Solorsano Middle School.

AAUW hosts women in history lunch

The Gilroy branch of the American Association of the University of Women is celebrating Women’s History Month with a lunch and presentation with Robert P. J. Cooney, Jr., author of the landmark book, “Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Woman Suffrage Movement.” Cooney will speak at 11:30 a.m. March 10 at the Westside Grill at 8080 Santa Teresa Boulevard.

Wildlife center pet photo day

The Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center will hold its 20th annual pet photo day with professional photographer Laura Marshall, with the assistance of

Peg Jackson serving as a photographer for the event. Appointments are available from 5 to 8 p.m. March 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 10 and from noon to 4 p.m. March 11 at the Granary, 17500 Depot St., in Morgan Hill. The cost is a donation of $50 for one 5×7” inch photo (cash or check only) with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting WERC’s care of orphaned, sick or injured animals.

Celebrate 100 years of Gilroy High

Gilroy High School will celebrate its 100th year of operation with an open house March 28 on campus. The school is located on the corner of 10th and Princevalle streets.

Parents, alumni and students are welcome. The event will feature a free barbeque beginning at 5:30 p.m., along with student work, a showcase of talent, a picnic in the quad area and possibly entertainment by the band and choir.

Visitors will also get a glimpse of architectural drawings, which will be available for viewing and depict what GHS will look like after it receives $11 million in renovations through summer 2013. For questions call the school at 847-2424.
