A three-inch break in a Union Pacific rail line caused delays anywhere from 30 minutes to nearly an hour in Caltrain service from Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy. Union Pacific representatives were Wednesday morning, and the exact location of the break was unknown, but a Caltrain representative said the break was south of Morgan Hill.

“At around 6:30 a.m., we had to work with VTA to do a bus bridge,” Caltrain’s acting Public Information Officer Mary Knuckles said at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. “We’re still experiencing some delays northbound and southbound. We don’t know yet about the evening commute.”

VTA sent three buses to transport passengers around the break in the line and personnel to redirect passengers to the buses.

“We have operations and plans in place to work with Caltrain to rectify any situation,” said Linh Hoang, public information officer for VTA. “We’re always there to support their efforts.”
