Pee Wees, Junior Midgets both win weekend games
GILROY – With the Mighty Mites continuing to improve every week in a league that does not keep score, the Gilroy Browns went even in four games against Santa Clara in Pop Warner football action.
The Pee Wees were anchored by three Richie Sotelo touchdowns for a 22-13 victory. Quarterback Nick Marra threw two long passes – one to Sotelo for 45 yards and the other to Juan Delgado for 30 yards. Delgado also recorded a safety, while teammate Greg Hamik converted one extra point.
The Junior Midgets scored the second Gilroy win – clipping Santa Clara by a slim 8-6 margin. The Gilroy defense came up big with a goal-line stand from its own five-yard line.
The Junior Pee Wees were on the losing end of a tight 6-0 final result in a defensive battle, while the Midgets fell to Santa Clara, 32-6.
Up next, the Browns play Sunday at Palo Alto, and the Gilroy cheerleaders attend the first Conference Invitational competition at Independence High the same day.
