Anchorpoint Christian High School’s football team has had much reason to rejoice this year, with an undefeated record and a No. 11 state ranking.

But on Monday, the team experienced a setback when a maintenance worker discovered that a burglar or burglars took about $16,000 of items from a storage shed at the school, 2220 Pacheco Pass Highway, football coach K.C. Adams said. Stolen items included a public announcement system, a field striper, a generator, helmets, jerseys, push lawn mowers and all the school’s footballs. The only item that was left behind was a 3,000-pound riding mower, which happened to be broken before the burglary.

“This stuff we can’t replace,” Adams said. “It’s not like we can go get it again.”

Team members are improvising as they gear up for their Nov. 7 homecoming match. The team used a football that was in a player’s car during Monday’s practice.

“Like I’m always telling them, the devil is always trying to steal our joy – don’t let him steal your joy,” Adams said.

Burglars apparently broke into the storage shed the evening of Oct. 18. Someone had ripped a hole in the school’s fence and picked the locks of the storage shed, Adams said.

Sgt. Rick Sung of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department said such crimes are relatively rare.

“It’s a bummer,” he said.

Adams expressed surprise that the burglars were bold enough to commit a theft at a school on such a well-traveled road – and at a Christian school, at that.

“You just pray for the people who robbed you,” Adams said.
