Let’s go fishing

“As to go fishing, there’s Parkway Lake where you pay to fish. I’m not sure what the price is, but that’s in Coyote along 101, jut north of Morgan Hill. You can go fishing at Uvas, Coyote, Anderson, all the area reservoirs I believe are regularly stocked with fish of several kinds. So there’s more than just going to Milpitas. Bye.”

Need a break

“Sunrise Park is a wonderful recreation area. There is a large area for sports such as soccer and play spots for the young children, as well as tennis courts and water fountains and shrubs and grass. It’s a real pleasure to go there. The only drawback is the lack of any sort of a bathroom – not even a Porta-Potty. Now what will all those children and adults do this summer when the weather is warmer and the place will be full of people? It remains a nice addition to our town, just don’t drink a lot of coffee before you go over there.”

Red Phone:

Sunrise Park will eventually have a community building with restrooms, but don’t hold your breath – or anything else – waiting for it.

Officials have not set a construction date and have not earmarked any funds for the project, which will jockey against dozens of others for money in coming years.

Sunrise Park is an exception to the rule, according to Parks and Facilities Manager Bill Headley, who said that neighborhood parks generally do not have bathrooms. Constructions costs eat up roughly a quarter of funding available for neighborhood parks, which officials prefer to spend on swings, ball fields and other amenities.

“Most neighborhood parks are not designed with bathrooms because the expectation is that they’re within walking distance of homes,” Headley said. Still, he acknowledged that such a policy “doesn’t help the youngster learning about lead time.”

Way too dark

“Hi, my message is that I’ve been encountering the tinted driver windows. The dark, dark, dark driver window. You can’t drive safely. … It’s a safety issue, not a personal issue. How can these businesses be tinting the car windows so dark? I thought it was illegal. Poor officers, if they pull over a car like that, they can’t even see what’s going on. … At stop signs, you can’t see their faces and you don’t know if they’re going to turn or stop. It’s an issue. Is it illegal and if it is, who’s tinting these windows? Thanks.”

Red Phone:

GPD Sgt. Kurt Svardal said that it is not illegal for businesses to tint car windows. However, it is illegal for individuals to drive a vehicle with tinted windows on public roadways.

“There is nothing that says businesses can’t tint windows,” Svardal said. “In California it is illegal to tint your car windows, but in other states it’s not. Tinting windows significantly reduces the heat inside of a car. Tinting windows is a solar issue in some cases.”

According to Svardal, if and when police see vehicles with tinted windows on the streets they are pulled over and issued a ticket.

“If we see them we will write them a ticket, and we do,” he added.
