There’s a reason we call CMAP Channel 19 ED-TV. It’s all educational, all the time. Channel 19 features commercial free programs from Annenberg/CPB. The content broadcasts 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and airs an extraordinary range of teacher professional development and instructional programs funded by Annenberg/CPB.
While CMAP is interested in airing tapes produced with local teachers and students, Annenberg provides fantastic and informative “filler programming” on Channel 19.
Their schedule is as follows. On Sundays, they feature programs in Arts and Humanities. This Sunday’s content includes A Biography of America, addressing the history of slavery, and the coming of the Civil War. Great stuff for history teachers. For you administrators, there’s Principles for Principals : Fostering Effective Professional Development for Teachers. In the evening on ED-TV Channel 19, The Synergy Project addresses the ever popular and timely topic of school funding.
Mondays bring videos on Literature and Language Arts, including titles like The Sacred Words: The Elements of Poetry, and A Sense of Place: Setting and Character in Poetry. For you mathematics teachers, check out Tuesday’s selection of shows including Math for All: Guessing & Numbers in both English and Spanish. Other programs on Tuesdays teach algebra, fractions, and solving equations. Boy does that bring me back. Just when you think you’ll never use algebra, you’ve got to do a budget in an excel spreadsheet. (I know I’m not alone here …)
On Wednesdays, see programs that deal with the sciences. Titles for this coming week include Earth Revealed: Evolution Through Time; Minerals: The Materials of Earth; and Planet Earth: The Climate Puzzle. Thursdays cover history and social studies, and Fridays deal with languages and world culture. Saturdays cover a multitude of topics in education, and feature biographies on cultural icons like Langston Hughes and George C. Wolfe. Each day, Annenberg features special programs on Professional Development for teachers. Administrators, too, can take advantage of Annenberg programming, courtesy of CMAP’s ED-TV.
For a thorough schedule, check out CMAP’s viewer guide at www.mycmap.org. The ED-TV Channel 19 Viewer Guide will lead you right to the Annenberg programming schedule. This gold mine is yours for the taking, and for the teaching!
If any local students and teachers are producing videos as part of a class project, for a student news show, etc., ED-TV wants your programming! Wouldn’t it be cool for the whole community to know what your class and school are up to? Give CMAP a call, or go on line to find out how to submit a tape.
