The Gilroy High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleading
teams took home the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s top award
last week at their camp, which took place at California State
University Monterey Bay.
The Gilroy High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleading teams took home the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s top award last week at their camp, which took place at California State University Monterey Bay.
The Traditions Award is the final honor given out at camp to the team who shows the most overall leadership, spirit, and teamwork during the camp. The Traditions Award includes a bid for all members of both teams to perform at the January 2011 Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii along with a commemorative plaque and the coveted Camp Spirit Banana.
During camp, the teams preformed and were evaluated on a cheer with stunt incorporation, a sideline, a game time situation, and an Xtreme Routine.The Xtreme Routine includes a dance taught at camp with stunt incorporation.
The GHS Varsity team took home a first-place trophy for its performance of Gilroy High’s Fight Song, earning a second bid to the Pro Bowl.
Both teams participated in Camp Championships, which are an optional competition held at the end of camp.
In “Camp Champs,” teams compete with material and stunts that they have learned while at camp.
The JV squad took first place in their Camp Champs cheer performance, earning another bid to the Pro Bowl.
Both teams were awarded the Superior Squad trophy and Blue Superior Ribbon for their overall effort and performances.
Varsity took second place in its Camp Champs cheer to grab a bid to perform at the 2011 Capital One Bowl in Orlando.
The JV finished second for its Xtreme Routine performance and will join the Varsity in Orlando for the Capital One Bowl. Varsity took third place in the Xtreme Routine division.
